How to Verify the Actual Surgical Facility in Colombia: REPS, Services and the Address on Your Booking

Verifying a surgeon is only half the job. In Colombia, verify the provider site and enabled health services in REPS, then make sure that is the same facility where your operation will actually happen.

Independent information, not medical advice. Verify the professional, the facility and the actual plan before paying a deposit.

A common due-diligence mistake is stopping after the surgeon checks out. The operation takes place in a facility with its own staffing, equipment, services and emergency systems. Colombia's REPS system exists to register health-service providers and the services they are enabled to offer. That gives patients a second official check alongside ReTHUS.

Four separate checks

Check 01Surgeon → ReTHUS
Check 02Facility → REPS
Check 03Service → enabled
Check 04Address → matches booking
Check 05Emergency plan → documented

What the consultation should decide

01
ReTHUS answers whether the professional is authorized; REPS addresses health-service providers and enabled services.
02
The clinic where you consult is not always the facility where surgery occurs.
03
A polished recovery house is not the same thing as an operating facility.
04
You should know the exact surgical address before sending a nonrefundable payment tied to a specific operating plan.

The point of this list is not to diagnose yourself. It is to make the consultation concrete: you should leave knowing what the surgeon thinks the problem is, what they propose to change, what they intentionally will not change, and what trade-offs the chosen operation creates. If you cannot explain the plan back in ordinary language, you are not ready to compare it with another quote.

Verify the plan before you verify the price

Medellín has a large cosmetic-surgery market, which gives patients real choice. Choice works best when you convert marketing claims into checks you can perform yourself. ReTHUS is the official Colombian health-workforce registry; REPS covers registered health-service providers and enabled services. When devices are involved, INVIMA provides additional product-registration tools.

#Question / verificationWhat to keep
1Search the provider/facility in REPS using the available citizen tools.Write down the answer before you deposit.
2Confirm the specific site/address, not merely a parent brand name.Write down the answer before you deposit.
3Ask which surgical and anesthesia services are enabled at that site.Write down the answer before you deposit.
4Request the written emergency-transfer pathway and destination hospital if applicable.Write down the answer before you deposit.

What can change the operative plan

Exact surgical location.
Who owns/operates the facility.
What service category is enabled for the planned procedure.
Recovery-room capability and overnight options.
Transfer process if a higher level of care is needed.

These variables are why a package quote based on a few photos should be treated as preliminary. A formal consultation may narrow, expand or change the plan once the surgeon examines tissue quality, asymmetry, prior scars and medical history. Ask which parts of the proposal are firm and which are contingent on the in-person assessment.

Recovery is part of procedure selection

A useful recovery estimate has milestones, not just a number of days: when you can walk independently, shower, manage dressings or drains, sleep in a normal position, ride in a car, work, lift, exercise and fly. Those milestones differ by operation and patient. Build your Medellín stay around follow-up and medical clearance rather than an airline fare calendar.

Verification works best as a chain, not a badge

No single logo, membership, registry entry or social-media following answers every safety question. The professional, the facility, the specific service, the anesthesia team and any implanted device are separate things. Verify them separately, then make sure the names and addresses match the paperwork for your operation.

That approach also makes comparison easier. Instead of deciding whether a clinic “feels reputable,” you can ask concrete questions and keep the answers. When a practice is well organized, these checks usually make the conversation simpler, not more adversarial.

Make the quote comparable line by line

Ask for enough detail that two clinics can be compared without guessing. “All inclusive” is not a line item. If one proposal includes anesthesia, facility, garments and follow-up while another excludes them, the headline total does not tell you which plan is actually less expensive.

Pause before paying if…

  • The surgical address is “TBD” after a large deposit.
  • The clinic says facility registration is private information.
  • A coordinator says the surgeon's license automatically covers the building.
  • The operation is moved to a different location without updated documentation.
A useful second-read: If you already have a written Medellín quote, send the procedure names and line items. We can help you identify what is missing and what questions to take back to the clinic. We do not diagnose or choose a surgeon for you.

Have a quote or consultation plan?

Send the basics. Keep detailed medical history and intimate images for the licensed clinical team. We can help you organize the non-clinical comparison: scope, inclusions, verification and travel questions.

Frequently asked questions

What is REPS?

REPS is Colombia's Registro Especial de Prestadores de Servicios de Salud, the system for registered health-service providers and their enabled services.

Is REPS the same as ReTHUS?

No. ReTHUS relates to health professionals; REPS relates to health-service providers/facilities and services.

What if the consultation office and operating facility differ?

That can be normal. Verify the actual operating facility separately.

Does REPS guarantee I will have no complication?

No. Registry/enabling checks are due diligence, not a guarantee of outcome.

What if the facility changes at the last minute?

Ask why and verify the replacement site before proceeding if circumstances allow.
